Overview of the Position
The Director of Learning Strategies is responsible for developing
and implementing a comprehensive program to support all students
in their learning at Lick-Wilmerding through the Center for
Learning Strategies (CLS). In this regard, the Director of Learning
Services is key to implementing the school’s mission of
creating a truly inclusive community. This involves leading
the faculty in the development of their teaching skills in order
for them to be able to reach a wide variety of learners effectively,
and working with students to develop both their academic and
advocacy skills. The Director of Learning Services is a member
of the Department of Equity & Instruction and the Student
Support Services (SSS) team, and supervises the Teaching Assistant.
The following are some of the major responsibilities of the
Director of Learning Strategies:
STUDENT AND FAMILY SERVICES
Assist Admissions Office in assessing applications of students
with documented learning differences
Systematically screen entering 9th graders to identify previously
undetected learning differences
Hold individual sessions with students for formal screening/diagnostic
testing, comprised of standardized tests and informal tasks
which pinpoint areas of difficulty as well as identification
of strengths and learning style.
Develop, maintain, and implement systems related to extended
time testing, in school tutoring programs, homework café
support for students on academic probation, and language waivers.
Maintain and regularly update files for all students with learning
disabilities as well as those who have been recommended by teachers
for additional support
FACULTY LEADERSHIP
Liaison between, and advocate for, L.D. students and their particular
teachers
Act as a resource to the school community on issues related
to learning disabilities and differentiated instruction; maintain
a library of articles/books for loan to parents and teachers;
and provide ongoing workshops and presentations to teachers
Manage teaching assistant (full time hired position) by holding
daily meetings, clearly stating goals, and holding teaching
assistant accountable for the work that is being done.
Directly connect equity pedagogy work with differentiated instruction
by conducting faculty professional development sessions as well
as ongoing, embedded professional development through classroom
coaching.
Work with faculty to develop and design alternative assignments
and activities for students with learning differences

The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in
Oakland, California, seeks a full-time English teacher beginning
September 2010. We seek candidates who have a minimum of 3 to
5 years of teaching experience and some graduate training in

Aim High

Aim High, celebrating over 20 years of serving Bay Area youth,
is currently hiring for its summer school session. The dates
of the 2010 summer program are: Monday, June 21st - Friday,
July 30th. We are hiring experienced Master Teachers, Interns
and Teaching Assistants. This summer, Aim High will operate
its tuition-free summer program at campuses in San Francisco,

Overview of Master Teacher Positions:
Master Teachers (MT) teach core academic classes (math, science,
humanities, Issues and Choices) and are responsible for leading

Overview of Teaching Intern Positions:
The position of Teaching Intern (TI) is a unique opportunity
for college students and adults interested in education or a
career change to teaching. Over the course of Aim High’s
five-week summer school, TI work directly work with middle school
students under the supervision of professional teachers. TIs
generally assist Master Teachers in teaching core classes, are
responsible for leading and assisting in afternoon activities,
monitor lunch periods and recess, attend events in the evenings,
and write student evaluations at the end of the summer. At Aim
High, TIs opinions and viewpoints are listened to and valued
in the teaching community. This is a six-week position; one
week of training and five weeks with the middle school students.

The position of Teaching Assistant (TA) is a unique opportunity
for high school and college students to develop teaching skills
and experience by working directly with middle school students
under the supervision of professional teachers. TAs assist Master

Overview of Teaching in Aim High’s Outdoor Education Program:
Aim High is also looking for all above teaching positions to
work in our outdoor education program. This program serves the
oldest level of our students (rising 9th graders) during their
last summer in Aim High. Students spend the better part of a
week out in a bay area park, such as the Marin Headlands, learning
about stewardship, ecology, teamwork and park history. The week
culminates with camping overnight the last evening.

Overview of Crossroads:
Crossroads is a year-round program for low-middle income sixth,

Qualifications:

Breakthrough Overview:
Breakthrough San Francisco at SF Day School fosters educational
equity through an innovative, two-pronged approach. We provide
intensive academic enrichment and ongoing support to motivated,
low-income students from public schools across San Francisco,
ensuring they are academically successful and on the path to
college. Simultaneously, we train outstanding high school and
college students from across the country for work as tomorrow’s
teachers and urban educational leaders. Historically, over 94%
of our student body is of color; 87% are low-income; 60% speak
a language other than English at home; and 74% will be the first
in their families to attend four-year colleges.
The intensive six-week summer program for fifth and sixth graders
is a key component of Breakthrough’s effort to ensure
students are on an academically rigorous path through middle
and high school, and will be prepared to enter college. Summer
programming consists of core academic classes (math, reading,
writing, science, and humanities) and non-academic electives
such as African dance, Japanese, and poetry. Because Breakthrough
utilizes a “students teaching students” model, all
summer classes are planned and taught by exceptional high school
and college students.
General Job Description:
The Dean of Students will collaborate with directors, teachers,
parents, and volunteers to ensure that all students are successful
in the academically rigorous setting. The Dean of Students will
work closely with the Associate Director and Director of Instruction
to run all aspects of the summer program, including holding
teachers accountable for their students’ success. The
Dean of Students will think critically about ways to solve disciplinary
issues, including academic and non-academic issues, in order
to ensure that students are getting the support they need to
maintain high levels of performance. In addition, the Dean of
Students will build relationships with all Breakthrough students

The Bay Area Teacher Training Institute was founded in 2002 and
is part of the San Francisco State University Department of Elementary
Education. In our program you learn by doing. BATTI students take
education credential classes two evenings a week while working
at paid assistant teacher or intern positions. These are mostly
full time positions assisting the lead teacher in grades K-8.
Other responsibilities during our program include teaching one
morning a week in a public school in your first year and teaching
in public summer school in the summer in between the two academic
years.
Applications for the credential program are available now and
are due March 2. A candidate must have a BA degree, gain early
field experience teaching children this year, and have passed
the CBEST and one of the CSET tests by the end of this summer;
see our website, www.ba-tti.org to learn about all requirements.
If you are interested in this innovative program you must come
to one of our introductory meetings either at the San Francisco
Day School on Dec. 10, Jan. 12, Feb 9, or March 9; or at the St
Paul’s Episcopal School in Oakland on Dec. 16, Jan. 20,
or Feb. 23.
Salaries at the various schools range from $22,000 to $32,000.

Overview
The San Francisco School seeks talented, experienced and team
player candidates for the position of Director of Finance and
Operations.
Director of Finance and Operations Position
The Director of Finance and Operations reports directly to the
Head of School, supervises a half-time HR Assistant and part-time
bookkeeper, is an integral member of the administrative team,
attends Board meetings and serves on a number of Board Committees,
including (but not limited to) Finance, Investment and Site. The
Director is responsible for the school’s financial planning,
management and budgeting; administering the indexed tuition program;
executing the investment policy; managing employee benefits and
policies; overseeing plant operations, purchasing supplies and
food service operations; and the general operation of the school.
The Director maintains relationships with banks, professional
accountants, legal counsel, insurance agents and other private
businesses on contractual and other matters pertaining to financial
and operations management.
Skills, Qualifications and Attributes
Highly effective financial management skills, coupled with an
ability to set priorities and implement decisions in a timely
fashion
· Ability to work closely with the Head of School, Board
Treasurer, Finance Committee and Board to develop current and
long-term operating, plant and endowment budgets for the school
Experienced with accounting software, excel spreadsheets, modeling
and other applicable financial management tools
Ability to envision, articulate and advance effective approaches
to balancing competing financial needs within the institution
· Successful administrative experience in planning and
implementing major facility additions and modifications
· General knowledge around investment practices
Ability to be discreet with confidential information while working
collaboratively with different groups within the school to advance
the institution’s financial future and stability
Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills that will
ensure the effective stewardship of a dynamic, progressive school
· Organized, with effective oral and written communication
skills
· A relevant advanced degree (e.g. M.B.A. or C.P.A.)
· Willingness to be a team player who steps outside of
job description as needed (for the good of the school)
