Position Description:
The Athenian School is seeking a full-time teacher of Spanish in grades 9 – 12. The position entails teaching four sections of Spanish, Levels I – V (depending on the year). Faculty also serve as advisor to 10 students, oversee a community service activity, assume responsibility for four weekends of residential duty or physical education, and participate in orientations, all school events, morning meetings and special days.

Mandarin Chinese Teacher , 2010-2011 School Year

Job Description
We are seeking a full-time Mandarin teacher to begin in August 2010. The successful candidate will teach three sections of Mandarin per trimester, ranging from level I to level V, with the possibility of a level VI. In addition to classroom teaching, Bay School teachers serve as student advisors, after-school activities mentors (one trimester), and admissions and other committee members. Teachers also assist in occasional monitoring of study halls, morning attendance and other student activities as needed.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a fluent speaker with authentic pronunciation who has significant previous experience teaching Mandarin as a second language to high-school age students. We are particularly interested in someone with an in-depth understanding of Chinese cultures who employs a communicative approach to language instruction. S/he will be passionate about the subject matter, be adept at using current technology as an instructional tool, and have significant experience teaching in a rigorous, college preparatory environment. Finally, the successful candidate will be a legal US resident or in current possession of a work permit.

Full-Time Mandarin Chinese Teacher (Beginning August 2010)
Marin Academy seeks an experienced full-time Mandarin teacher to lead the Mandarin program beginning in August 2010. Candidates should have secondary or college teaching experience working with both beginning and experienced speakers of Mandarin. A teaching credential is not required. The World Languages Department emphasizes immersion in the target language in the classroom and an understanding of grammar, speaking, writing, and culture. Part-Time Learning Services Coordinator (Beginning August 2010)
Marin Academy seeks a part-time Learning Services Coordinator. The successful candidate should have a background in learning differences/disabilities and be able to serve as a conduit between high school students, parents, psychologists/psychiatrists and other learning specialists, Marin Academy faculty and administration, and the College Board. A degree in Learning Disabilities or Special Education would be beneficial but is not required. Candidates must be organized and have experience working with students with learning differences and a track record of collaboration. The Director of Upper School Admissions will contribute to school-wide marketing efforts and will be responsible for organizing, integrating and managing the resources in the Office of Upper School Admissions to achieve enrollment goals. The Director manages the daily operations of the admissions office, including developing and assessing all recruitment programs, coordinating application processing, training and supervising staff, managing the department’s budget, and utilizing information technology to support the admission effort. The Director works closely with the Director of Lower/Middle School Admissions and other student services entities to provide a comprehensive success-oriented experience for students as they enter, attend and leave the institution.
This person must be able to interact with faculty and staff, counselors, prospective students, parents, and community members of all ages. Experience in admissions recruitment and retention is strongly preferred. Good communication skills and professional image and approach are critical. This person must have well-developed writing skills and knowledge of marketing. Some evening and weekend work is required.

10. Along with the Lower School Admissions Director, assumes responsibility for the Admissions Website and online application and newsletter(s) with the other campus Director.

11. Visits all local-area sending schools on an annual basis and assures that they have appropriate school information and answers to questions or concerns.

12. Organizes and maintains the prospective student mailing and tracking processes. Develops and maintains a good understanding of the administrative computer system. Trains staff in the use of components of the system.

13. Works closely with the Business Office and Financial Aid Coordinator on financial aid, marketing pieces and scholarships targeted to new students.

14. Provides oversight for the creation, operation, and improvement of the “Student Ambassador” program.

15. Leads and facilitates tours for prospective families, in addition to coordinating parent/guardian tour guides and ambassadors.

16. Works with the Director of Advancement and other offices to present the orientation programs.

17. Assists with academic advising and registration activities as appropriate.

19. With the other campus Director, oversees the preparation and management of the Admissions budgets.

Overview of the Position
The Director of Learning Strategies is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive program to support all students in their learning at Lick-Wilmerding through the Center for Learning Strategies (CLS). In this regard, the Director of Learning Services is key to implementing the school’s mission of creating a truly inclusive community. STUDENT AND FAMILY SERVICES
Assist Admissions Office in assessing applications of students with documented learning differences
Systematically screen entering 9th graders to identify previously undetected learning differences
Hold individual sessions with students for formal screening/diagnostic testing, comprised of standardized tests and informal tasks which pinpoint areas of difficulty as well as identification of strengths and learning style.
Develop, maintain, and implement systems related to extended time testing, in school tutoring programs, homework café support for students on academic probation, and language waivers.
Maintain and regularly update files for all students with learning disabilities as well as those who have been recommended by teachers for additional support

FACULTY LEADERSHIP
Liaison between, and advocate for, L.D. students and their particular teachers
Act as a resource to the school community on issues related to learning disabilities and differentiated instruction; maintain a library of articles/books for loan to parents and teachers; and provide ongoing workshops and presentations to teachers
Manage teaching assistant (full time hired position) by holding daily meetings, clearly stating goals, and holding teaching assistant accountable for the work that is being done.
Directly connect equity pedagogy work with differentiated instruction by conducting faculty professional development sessions as well as ongoing, embedded professional development through classroom coaching.
Work with faculty to develop and design alternative assignments and activities for students with learning differences

Overview of Teaching in Aim High’s Outdoor Education Program:

Overview of Crossroads:
Crossroads is a year-round program for low-middle income sixth, seventh, and eighth grade public school students from the San Rafael area. Students apply to the program at the beginning of their 6th grade year and commit to the program for a three-year period. The centerpiece of the program is an intensive, five-week summer program. During our summer program, students engage in academic classes, arts instruction, recreation and fieldtrips. Between summer sessions, students receive after-school tutoring during the school year. There is also a Saturday School program during the school year that occurs once per month and involves all our students and their families. The major objective of Crossroads is to equip students with the skills they need for success in middle school, high school, college, and beyond. We believe that these students are at an important crossroads in their lives, and are committed to providing them with the support, skills, and information to improve their access to opportunities of which they may not be aware.

Crossroads seeks three humanities and three science/math teachers for the upcoming 2010 summer session. The six humanities and science/math teachers hired every summer are at the core of our programming.

Responsibilities:
Each of these individuals will be responsible for:
· Designing, implementing, and documenting a five-week, theme-based curriculum that focuses on building skills, is relevant to our students’ lives, and culminates in a major project that will be showcased at the closing festival
· Leading two 70-minute classes daily in their discipline (one preparation)
· Teaching one 60-minute arts or athletic class of their choice (past examples
include basketball, gardening, drama, spoken word) every other day
· Assisting in a 45-minute homework help class daily
· Eating breakfast and lunch with students
· Supporting the program while on field trips
· Planning special activities as they present themselves
· Preparing for the end of the summer festival

We pride ourselves on small class sizes (6 – 8 students for humanities and science/math classes, no more than 12 students for arts/athletics classes). Teachers can expect one 1-hour free block per day for lesson preparation.

Breakthrough Overview:
Breakthrough San Francisco at SF Day School fosters educational equity through an innovative, two-pronged approach. The intensive six-week summer program for fifth and sixth graders is a key component of Breakthrough’s effort to ensure students are on an academically rigorous path through middle and high school, and will be prepared to enter college. Summer programming consists of core academic classes (math, reading, writing, science, and humanities) and non-academic electives such as African dance, Japanese, and poetry. Because Breakthrough utilizes a “students teaching students” model, all summer classes are planned and taught by exceptional high school and college students.

General Job Description:
The Dean of Students will collaborate with directors, teachers, parents, and volunteers to ensure that all students are successful in the academically rigorous setting. The Dean of Students will work closely with the Associate Director and Director of Instruction to run all aspects of the summer program, including holding teachers accountable for their students’ success. The Dean of Students will think critically about ways to solve disciplinary issues, including academic and non-academic issues, in order to ensure that students are getting the support they need to maintain high levels of performance. In addition, the Dean of Students will build relationships with all Breakthrough students and families to help create a positive and supportive community. Full-Time Spanish Teacher

Children’s Day School (CDS) in San Francisco is looking for an experienced, talented Spanish teacher to instill a love of speaking Spanish in our 4th grade through 8th grade students, effective immediately. We are seeking a teacher who will provide high quality reading and writing opportunities through the Spanish curriculum, including hands-on learning experiences both on and off campus.

Responsibilities
· Design curriculum for, and teach 16-18 periods of Spanish per week.
· Collaborate with classroom teachers to create Spanish lessons that support the homeroom curriculum and meet the unique learning style and needs of each students.
· Partner closely with our elementary Spanish teachers to create a seamless preK-8 Spanish program that prepares our students to speak Spanish with confidence and joy.
· Communicate with parents and students about student progress and concerns.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
• Ability to take initiative, work passionately and joyfully, and collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators and parents.
• Proven methods for teaching Spanish in a fun and engaging way.

Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
• A bachelor’s degree and preferably a master’s degree.
• At least two years experience teaching Spanish as a second language at the elementary level.

Director of Finance and Operations Position
The Director of Finance and Operations reports directly to the Head of School, supervises a half-time HR Assistant and part-time bookkeeper, is an integral member of the administrative team, attends Board meetings and serves on a number of Board Committees, including (but not limited to) Finance, Investment and Site. The Director is responsible for the school’s financial planning, management and budgeting; administering the indexed tuition program; executing the investment policy; managing employee benefits and policies; overseeing plant operations, purchasing supplies and food service operations; and the general operation of the school. The Director maintains relationships with banks, professional accountants, legal counsel, insurance agents and other private businesses on contractual and other matters pertaining to financial and operations management.

Skills, Qualifications and Attributes
Highly effective financial management skills, coupled with an ability to set priorities and implement decisions in a timely fashion
· Ability to work closely with the Head of School, Board Treasurer, Finance Committee and Board to develop current and long-term operating, plant and endowment budgets for the school
Experienced with accounting software, excel spreadsheets, modeling and other applicable financial management tools
Ability to envision, articulate and advance effective approaches to balancing competing financial needs within the institution
· Successful administrative experience in planning and implementing major facility additions and modifications
· General knowledge around investment practices
Ability to be discreet with confidential information while working collaboratively with different groups within the school to advance the institution’s financial future and stability
Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills that will ensure the effective stewardship of a dynamic, progressive school
· Organized, with effective oral and written communication skills
· A relevant advanced degree (e.g. M.B.A. or C.P.A.)
· Willingness to be a team player who steps outside of job description as needed (for the good of the school)
