Preamble
With the intentions of being an active presence in defining the education
of all children, people of color now set forward the creation of an organization of, by
and for all people who support the academic achievement, professional accomplishment, and
self-determination of African Americans, Asian/Asian-Americans, Latino/Hispanics, Middle
Easterners, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and all Multiracial people in Independent
Schools.
National Goals
- Increase enrollment and retention of
families of color
- Encourage school administrative
practices and board policies that reflect a long-term commitment to diversity
- Develop curricula that are
multicultural
- Establish support systems for
students of color
- Support teachers and administrators
of color, and work to increase the numbers of both
- Support families of color
Regional Goals
- Organize two Students of Color
Conferences annually, one for middle school and one for high school students
- Encourage networking and
communication among area high school students by beginning the academic year with a Fall
social
- Develop a one day conference with
targeted forums and workshops for the various components of independent school communities:
Teachers, Staff Members, Parents/Family Members, and Administrators, including Admissions Directors, Heads of Schools, and
Diversity Coordinators
- Communicate with member schools via
newsletter, EdNet, and website
